What is SwitchLight 2.0?

SwitchLight 2.0 is our most advanced Video-to-PBR model, designed to generate accurate physically based rendering (PBR) maps—including normal, basecolor, metallic, roughness, and specular maps—from any type of footage.

Compared to SwitchLight 1.0, it delivers significantly enhanced accuracy and understands the whole scene, including both background elements and common objects. It is built to empower creators of all levels with full relighting and compositing capabilities.

SwitchLight 1.0 vs 2.0

SwitchLight 2.0 features a completely new architecture, purpose-built for high-fidelity relighting of any footage. It’s trained on 13× more data, spanning a much wider range of objects and environments. Combined with a 10x larger model size, SwitchLight 2.0 delivers sharper details—now including more extreme scenarios like complex environments.

Major Upgrades to SwitchLight 2.0

Ultra-detailed PBR maps

SwitchLight 2.0 can capture the details of skin texture, fabric, and facial and scene detail with stunning accuracy. Even in challenging real-world scenarios such as outdoors with strong shadow and highlight, making a significant improvement from SwitchLight 1.0, 2.0 model faithfully recovers PBR maps.

SwitchLight 2.0 can recover detailed surface normals even in challenging scenarios, including rapid motion and complex environments like dense foliage.

SwitchLight 2.0 faithfully recovers surface orientation of the train cars and rails, even under strong sunlight and intersecting geometries.

SwitchLight 2.0 accurately captures body shape and clothing details in a dynamic forest scene with motion blur and dappled light.

SwitchLight 2.0 captures intricate facial details—from eyes to ear lobes—as well as elements like sniper rifle.

SwitchLight 2.0 accurately captures car interiors under harsh shadow and reflections.

Full-Scene Understanding Beyond Humans

SwitchLight 1.0 required an alpha mask to specify the foreground subject, as it could only generate PBR passes for isolated humans. In contrast, SwitchLight 2.0 requires no alpha input and generates accurate PBR maps for the entire scene. Trained on a diverse dataset of objects beyond just people, SwitchLight 2.0 enables high-quality relighting and seamless compositing in any setting.

Image-Based Lighting on Real Video

Image-Based Lighting (IBL) is a gold standard in 3D rendering—using HDRIs to create realistic, environment-driven lighting with accurate reflections, shadows, and ambient tones. But until now, IBL was limited to CGI, because real footage lacked the necessary PBR data.

SwitchLight 2.0 unlocks this capability by generating high-quality PBR maps directly from video. You can apply HDRIs to live-action scenes and get physically accurate relighting, just like in Blender or Unreal. No 3D reconstruction—just instant, natural lighting in our real-time web editor or any 3D pipeline.

Export to Blender, Unreal, Nuke

You can export the PBR maps generated in Beeble Studio and import them into your favorite tools—such as Blender, Unreal Engine, After Effects, or Nuke. For Blender and Unreal specifically, we offer dedicated add-ons and plugins that let you import your footage as a fully relightable asset, making the integration seamless and powerful.

Try SwitchLight 2.0 at Beeble Studio

The easiest way to experience SwitchLight 2.0 is at Beeble Studio. Simply upload your green screen footage, and SwitchLight 2.0—running in the cloud—will automatically extract all the PBR passes. From there, you can experiment with real-time lighting and compositing to bring your shots to life.
