AI relighting in post: Rebuilding the look of a TV commercial

How AI relighting helped Judas Studio finish a broadcast-ready Napralief commercial under tight timelines.

For this Napralief commercial, the production team at Judas Studio faced a familiar challenge: footage that looked good in-camera but revealed lighting variations and color spill once in post. Traditional grading alone would have been limiting under tight timelines.

To bring the spot to the finish line, the team turned to AI relighting, using Beeble to dynamically adjust lighting on the talent and correct mismatches across multiple environments.

The challenge

During production, the team encountered:

  • Noticeable color contamination, including blue cast on skin tones.
  • Inconsistent lighting across changing environments.
  • Green screen setups that called for careful keying and compositing.

The result: footage that required additional work to integrate seamlessly across scenes. Traditional color grading in tools like DaVinci Resolve alone would have been insufficient to fully resolve these issues, particularly across multiple environment transitions.

The solution: AI relighting

Using Beeble, the team applied AI-driven relighting directly within their Nuke compositing workflow. This allowed them to:

  • Dynamically re-light the subject to match each environment.
  • Neutralize color spill and restore natural skin tones.
  • Maintain consistency across multiple scene transitions.
  • Iterate quickly without manually rebuilding lighting setups.

The relighting pass worked alongside existing keys and mattes — enhancing, not replacing, the traditional pipeline.

Judas Studio Creative Director CBevil reflects on the impact of the tool:

These frames demonstrate how AI relighting helped correct color balance and lighting direction while preserving natural skin-tone detail.

A shift in commercial production

This ad highlights a key shift in commercial production: AI is extending what's possible when production conditions are less than ideal.

For brands and agencies, that means:

  • Reduced production risk.
  • Greater flexibility after the shoot.
  • Faster delivery timelines.

If you're working on commercial, film, or branded content and want greater control over lighting in post, now's the time to bring that control into your own workflow.
